Carlsbad, CA – August, 2008 - When it opens in the fall of this year, the Capitol Visitor Center will provide visitors to the Capitol with a variety of amenities, including an exhibition gallery, orientation theaters, a 550-seat cafeteria, gift shops, and restrooms all within a secure public environment that will provide visitors shelter from the unpredictable D.C. weather. From its inception, the Capitol Visitor Center has been conceived as an extension of the Capitol that welcomes visitors to the seat of American government. At nearly 580,000 square feet, the CVC is the largest project in the Capitol’s 215-year history and is approximately three quarters the size of the Capitol itself. The entire facility is located underground on the east side of the Capitol.
The CVC has awarded JDS with a contract to manage the information needs of the retail portion of the project. The retail gift shop will utilize the JDS WinRetail® Enterprise Management to manage its back office operations and Tradewind® to power its front end cash register operation.
Implementation is timed to allow the CVC to be running under WinRetail® at its opening.
